DETAILS | The Greek physiotherapy association is concerned with all professional matters including physiotherapy education and trade union issues. The headquarter has two staff employees but no employed managing director. The association holds monthly executive meetings and furthers liasions with other health care professions and authorities. The association is member of a trade union. | ||||||||||||

Physiotherapy Education |

INFORMATION AND NUMBERS | The Greek association has their own education department. There are three physiotherapy schools with 400 students per year in technical colleges in Greece, and they come within the higher education system. Studies result in an academic degree/diploma after 4 years of studies and allow for postgraduate courses. Physiotherapists are involved in both teaching and research. Greece has recognition of Physiotherapy specialists. | ||||||||||||

TITLE AND REGULATIONS ON THE PROFESSION | Professional Title/ Qualification: Physiotherapist The title and the professional activity is protected by the state. The rules of professional conduct are determined directly by the state through national legislation. The physiotherapist must be state registrated and obtain a licence to practice. Greece has established a code of ethics for physiotherapists. The national authority responsible for the physiotherapy profession in Greece is the Ministry of Health. Employment opportunities for physiotherapists may be limited. | ||||||||||||

INSURANCE AND PRACTICE REGULATIONS | The physiotherapy services in Greece are determined by the profession. The physiotherapist is not allowed to determine the clinical intervention of physiotherapy him/herself. Greece offers both private and public physiotherapy services. The insurance cover for physiotherapy is paid both through the national health care system and privately the patient. | ||||||||||||
